Background

As Stockholm’s historical public waterway system, Waxholmsbolaget connect the many islands that make up the city. During recent years the general publics understanding of Waxholmsbolaget has skewed from integral transportation system to tour boats for day trips. A big concern.

Challenge

A new brand platform and identity to reaffirm who Waxholmsbolaget really are - a modern public transport system with a special heritage.

Insight

Heritage is positive. White boats, black chimneys and that yellow and blue flag are all iconic. Protect the heritage. Modernise the perception. Strengthen the core values.

Thinking

A wholesale shift in mindset from day trippers to daily commuters. A modern, functioning metro system. Trains on water.

Result

A simplified and cleaned identity. Less historical, more modern transport. A design system capable of delivering travel information, route maps, signage and everything else a modern public transportation system needs to help its passengers get from A to B, and back again.
