Identity Works presents
THIS IS HUMAN WORLD WITH
TOWARDS BRANDING, BUSINESS AND DESIGN.
Thanks to all involved in making Human World a success. We’re proud to have brought together Jenn Maer, Kaj Drobin, Julien Mauroy and an inspired audience of creative thinkers and brands to learn, ponder and discuss human-centered design.
Photos, interviews and poll results from the event will be posted on this page in a few short weeks. Also watch out for the next installment of Human World in the near future.
Until then, stay human.
Here we celebrate inspiring stories about people and brands doing human things.
As CEO of Design That Matters, Timothy Prestero co-invented the NeoNurture Infant Incubator which earned the #1 spot on TIME Magazine’s “50 Best Inventions of 2010”. But earning that accolade didn’t prevent Timothy and his team from committing a number of missteps. Watch Timothy share the inspiring story of their hard discoveries and humbling journey on TED Talk.Watch on Ted Talk
We've all encountered one – a door that needs instructions to merely use. After a frustrating experience in England, world renowned usability and design engineer Don Norman wrote a book on the subject. Watch the door-challenged folks at Vox reach out to the professor and get to the bottom of "Norman doors" - and designing for humans.Watch on Youtube
As our first recommended reading, we shine a light on Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda’s Odes to Common Things. His poems remind us of the powerful simplicity of all the ordinary things that humans have designed – and use everyday. In the book are Neruda’s odes to the spoon, scissors, socks… even a bar of soap.Get the book
Adapting human centred design processes isn’t enough. Design agencies must also help and convince clients to adapt the deep changes that the processes foster. Learn how IDEO has done it with some of their past clients.Read more
Brands have long been using focus groups to study humans and their thoughts and behaviours. But long gone are the golden days of Ernst Dichter, inventor of the focus group, and his unmatched emotional approach to psychoanalysis. After a particularly disheartening session, IDEO’s Neil Stevenson sought to redesign the system.Read more
It goes without saying that countless books have been written concerning humans. But one that has captured our (and the world’s) attention is the now defining tome on the subject – Sapiens: A Brief History Of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari. Get an inside scoop on his book by heading over to Bill Gate’s blog.Read more
We’re proud to introduce Human World’s keynote speaker Jenn Maer. As Portfolio Director in the Design for Change studio at IDEO, Jenn offers brand strategy, storytelling, and creative leadership to a diverse group of clients. As we anticipate her talk on 21 April, take a peek at Jenn’s thoughts on the secret sauce of brand building.Read more
We’re excited to announce one of our panellist Julien Mauroy, Course Director for Design Thinking at the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship and Clinical Innovation Fellow at KTH. Originally an industrial designer, Julien thrives on empowering traditionally siloed disciplines to innovate together.
We’re happy to introduce our other panellist, Kaj Drobin. As co-founder and CPO of Tictail, Kaj has always had an interest in how design can create a seamless and beautiful product experience for humans all over. Today Tictail supports over 125 thousand storefronts that sell over 2,5 million products.
In light of recent global events, this week we’re focusing on the role that human-cantered design can take within government. For this we look to Stanford Social Innovation Review whose mission is to advance, educate and inspire social innovation. Read their views on:Design-led innovation in government
